Prospecting Poll: How many half KEEPERS per box?
 

For all you prospecting halves for "junk" silver, how many KEEPERS are you averaging per box? KEEPERS include:
40% silver
90% silver
1974 double-die
clad proofs and any other oddball KEEPERS

For the record, I'm a SKUNK magnet, with a KEEPER rate of 0.53 per box, or 1 coin per 2 boxes so I narrowly voted for 1 per box. Then I lost them all in a boating accident.

from what i've seen & other anecdotals, "normal" is 1-2 per box - 40% or 90%

Sometimes a lot more, sometimes nada.

It runs in cycles, not every box has something. I just figured my keeper rate and it averaged 2.75/box, sometimes it didn't feel that good but I guess it averages out. I'm gonna keep going till the boat is barely treadin water and hope I can get to the shallows before it sinks. HH Mark

2-3 per box? The skunks hurt bigger than the wins seem to make up for. I keep going back for more boxes, though.

CRH is a passion. It is rather meditative for me. I have come to some interesting epiphanies about life, money, culture and history while sorting halves.

Contribute to the 90% Prospecting thread. It is a fine example of what this site is actually here for. That thread has and continues to run for pages and months with none of the BS flaming, trolling or politics. I'll be nominating it when the end of the year arrives.

Imagine the epiphanies I get doing 30+ boxes a week, maybe they are just halucinations haha.

$500 or 1000 coins. Rolls are $10 or 20 coins. 50 rolls to a box.

I've never done it by the box, but I hit up the bank for halves every time I go in. The first time I got 4 rolls. There were 11 90%s and 56 40%s. Since then I've sorted through $281 worth and got 1 more 40%. So: I got 68 keepers out of 642 coins. That comes out to 106 keepers per box right? :565:

Looks like I've got all of you guys beat by a large margin. :tongue_ma:

I should have just stopped after the first time. Then my average would be 837 keepers per box. :36_1_25:

Well i just started, and didnt have a chance to dilute to average with skunks. I did have one already So far I Had just about 4 boxes so far with alright returns. So id say about 10 per box...but this is average.

other denominations circulate too widely. You have a better chance with halves because they're generally not used in everyday circulation.

Yep, grab yourself (3) boxes of halves, quarters and dimes and see what the returns ratio is for each denomination. Unless you get some freak delivery you will quickly see the rationale behind CRH halves.

I decided this week that it's worth my time to start sorting a second box each week. If I pick up a box on Monday, sort it and return it by Wednesday, I can pick up a second box at my other bank with the same $500 dollars (minus the keepers).

I've only been sorting one box a week for about 8 weeks. I was skunked once, found 30 keepers in another box and I probably average 7 keepers. That's enough to make it interesting.

Sometimes I loudly tell a box that if it doesn't produce some silver I am done with this shit. Seems to work.
